Activision had another $4B year, made $850M just on Hearthstone and Destiny

Publisher Activision Blizzard had another $4 billion year, the company announced in an earnings report today, and three of the top five bestselling games in 2014: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Destiny and Skylanders Trap Team. Two of the publisher’s new games, Destiny and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, were responsible for more than $850 million worth of its revenue, the company said.

Activision Blizzard boasted that Destiny now has more than 16 million registered users and that “active players are playing the game an average of over three hours per day.” As of January, Hearthstone has more than 25 million registered players.

The company had a few other big numbers to brag about today, saying that more than 9 million players have signed up for Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm beta. World of Warcraft also ended 2014 with more than 10 million subscribers.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was the top-selling console game, globally, for the year. The franchise has generated more than $11 billion in sales for Activision.

For calendar year 2014, Activision Blizzard posted net revenue of $4.4 billion. $1.575 billion of that came during the holiday quarter. The company’s digital revenue — from things like map packs, subscriptions, expansions and customization items — was at an all-time high for the year, accounting for nearly half of the company’s overall revenue.
