Sega and The Creative Assembly released an update for Alien: Isolation this week that’s aimed at players who think the sci-fi horror game is just too easy … or too hard.
Alien: Isolation now comes with a new “Nightmare” difficulty mode that includes a deadlier xenomorph, harder hitter androids and more aggressive human survivors. Players also have to contend with fewer resources and can no longer see their health bar, ammo count or flashlight indicator. To make matters worse, players have to use a broken motion tracker that gives them “unreliable information.”
If that sounds like the least attractive set of changes ever, you might be more suited to Isolation‘s new “Novice” difficulty. Players of the new easier difficulty will face a slower, less adaptive alien who is easier to distract and hide from. On top of that, protagonist Amanda Ripley is more resilient, all of which gives players “more time and breathing space with which to explore Sevastopol.”
