Rodea the Sky Soldier from ex-Sonic Team lead Yuji Naka coming to the US

The video game from former Sonic Team lead and Nights Into Dreams creator Yuji Naka that was once missing in action for years, action game Rodea the Sky Soldier, will get a release in North America, thanks to publisher NIS America. The publisher announced at an event this evening it plans to bring the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS game stateside sometime this fall.

Rodea the Sky Soldier was originally a Wii game, but sat on the shelf for years. Naka said the game was finished in 2012— a year after announcing it — but that Kadokawa Games, who was publishing the title and developing the 3DS version, kept the game in limbo. Naka believed at the time that Rodea would come to Wii in 2013.

In 2014, Kadokawa announced that Rodea the Sky Soldier had shifted to Wii U and that it would be released in 2015. The game now has an April 2 release date in Japan and initial copies of the game will also include the Wii version.

Naka said he originally developed Rodea the Sky Soldier at his studio Prope with the Wii Remote in mind, but that he was interested in pursuing the Wii U GamePad as a means for control.
