Samsung launches new virtual reality video service for Gear VR called Milk VR

Samsung officially launched Milk VR, a virtual reality video service for its Gear VR platform, today at CES 2015. Exclusive to the company’s Galaxy Note 4 smartphone and Gear VR, Milk VR promises immersive, 360-degree video, including exclusive content from The Walking Dead creators Skybound Entertainment.

Milk VR is available to download now from the Oculus Store, Samsung announced at its CES press conference today. More than 30 titles, including music, sports, action and lifestyle videos, will be available through Milk VR. The company promises new content five days a week.

Samsung is working with content providers including Mountain Dew, the NBA and Red Bull to bring new VR video experiences to Milk VR. Skybound Entertainment’s David Alpert, producer of The Walking Dead television series, announced that it was working with Samsung on a Milk VR-exclusive.

Milk VR is an extension of Samsung’s Milk streaming services, which include Milk Music and Milk Video.

Gear VR is Samsung’s entry into the consumer virtual reality market. The headset, developed in conjunction with Oculus VR, is available for $199.99 and works exclusively with the Galaxy Note 4.
