See Star Trek Online’s monuments to Nimoy and others who served on the Enterprise

As promised, Star Trek Online this week unveiled a memorial not only to Leonard Nimoy, but to other notable actors and contributors to the landmark science-fiction series upon which the MMO is based.

Above is an image of the in-game memorial on Vulcan in Star Trek Online, depicting a statue of Nimoy’s iconic character, Spock giving the Vulcan salute. “Live long and prosper,” the well known Vulcan greeting, is inscribed on the statue’s base.

Elsewhere, worlds in Star Trek Online feature plaques with inscriptions bearing the names of Nimoy, James Doohan (Montgomery “Scotty” Scott), DeForrest Kelley (Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy), Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and his wife, Majel Barrett, who played the recurring role of Nurse/Dr. Christine Chapel, among others.

Stephen Ricossa, the executive producer of Star Trek Online, said the memorial plaque will be interactive, displaying the actor’s dates of birth and death “and a personal quote where possible.

“In this smal way, we hope to honor the memory and contribution of those who helped shape Star Trek into the cultural touchstone it is today.”

Additionally, the world of New Romulus in Star Trek Online will feature a different version of the same statue, along with the inscription “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.” The monument recognizes the in-game storyline of Vulcan-Romulan reunification with the words Nimoy made famous in the climactic scene of 1982’s Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan.
