Showtime Anytime, the app that lets Showtime subscribers watch the network’s programming on demand via streaming, launched on Xbox One yesterday.
The app arrives just in time for the January premieres of three returning original series: Shameless, House of Lies and Episodes. Showtime Anytime offers current and past seasons of shows such as Homeland, Masters of Sex and Nurse Jackie, as well as sports programming like boxing and Inside the NFL, movies and documentaries, comedy specials, and more. In addition, users can watch live television through the app with both the East Coast and West Coast feeds of the main Showtime channel. Plus, the app will likely offer the new season of Twin Peaks once it arrives in 2016.
Features specific to the Xbox One app include a new user interface, obligatory Kinect voice and gesture control, and the ability to pin series, movies and boxing matches directly to the console’s dashboard. Showtime Anytime launched on Xbox 360 in July, and is also available on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Roku. The app joins the Xbox One’s growing slate of streaming video apps, including HBO Go and Starz Play.
Users must already subscribe to Showtime through a cable or satellite television provider, such as Comcast Xfinity, Time Warner Cable or Verizon FiOS, and must authenticate the app with login information from a provider.
