Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment is working on a “multiplatform” sequel to the shooter, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella confirmed today in an interview with IGN.
“I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don’t know anything about it, or… yeah. So we’re working on a sequel,” Zampella told IGN, referring to a talk given last month by Blake Jorgensen, Electronic Arts’ chief financial officer. Zampella added that the game does not yet have an official title.
The original Titanfall (screenshot above), which debuted a year ago yesterday, was technically a multiplatform game as well, although all of them were Microsoft platforms: Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Previous reports have indicated that the sequel will not be a Microsoft exclusive, meaning that it will also be released on PlayStation 4, and that EA will publish the game again.
The Titanfall sequel is the main project under development at Respawn, but the studio is also “starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too,” said Zampella. It’s possible that the second team is being led by former God of War creative director Stig Asmussen, who joined Respawn last year as game director and confirmed to Polygon that he isn’t working on Titanfall.
Zampella didn’t provide any further details on the next Titanfall game, but said that Respawn is planning to “do something different” as far as charging for downloadable maps. The studio released three map packs as part of Titanfall‘s $24.99 season pass, which was available free yesterday to mark the one-year anniversary of the game’s release.
“I think having the maps like that in packs, it does split the community and it makes it harder for matchmaking, it’s messy,” said Zampella.
